Welcome to musicmash.gr! Thank you for taking the time out to talk to us today. Let’s start from the basic stuff: how did you come up with Girls Names?
Fate conspired against us. And now here we are, all the lads together.
How would you describe your music? If you had to put it in three words, how would you define it?
Town and Eastern
What musicians/writers/artists/places inspire you?
Too many to mention depending on who you ask…We all agree on Iggy Pop, Group Zero in terms of artists among MANY more, all the penguin classics, if you came from Northern Ireland you’d take inspiration from any other city that you visit.
Girls Names come originally from Belfast, Ireland. What influence has the city had on your lyrics and music?
It hasn’t directly influenced the sound because belfast bands are shit. Being in a band is a good excuse to stay inside out of the rain though.
Are there any new bands that have grabbed your attention lately?
Foster Body, we saw them play at SXSW this year and they blew all four of us away. Gross Net, Cruising, New Pagans.
What’s the best band you’ve ever played with?
What was the inspiration behind “Arms Around a Vision”? What were the concept and the objectives for this project? What kind of evolution has your sound gone through to get to what we hear on “Arms Around a Vision”?
The inspiration is always to make a better next album. We experimented with instruments that we’d never used before like piano, violin and saxophone. We were less afraid to try things like that, even though none of us really play piano, violin or saxophone.
In October you’re performing live in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece. What can people expect to witness at a Girls Names live show?
Noise, sexy bass, loud ness, the sexiest frontman in music. I could go on….sexy.
What would you like to say to your Greek supporters and fans?
Greece is one of the best countries we’ve ever played in. Please take us back to your bosom.
Thank you very much and good luck with your shows!
